Copy editing / rewriting involves checking errors and inconsistencies in your text (copy), which may take a number of forms; punctuation and/or grammar, inconsistencies of presentation and/or style, and so on.

The exact cost depends on the amount of work required. I will supply a firm quote once I have seen your text. In general however;

Light editing, per hour - £25

In-depth editing, per hour - £30

Proofing & Editing will not merely highlight errors and inconsistencies, it will improve your text (without nullifying your personal style) so that it reads more fluently and communicates your ideas more effectively, thus making your final message clearer and more compelling.

Proofreading is included as part of this service.

Depending upon the degree of editing required, the following options are available:

Light editing, which includes checking of grammar, sense & clarity, general English usage, overall tone, consistency and flow, plus sentence structure. If necessary, I will reorganise or change the order of sentences or paragraphs in order to present a more cohesive document. I’ll also highlight any inconsistencies, particularly regarding word usage, and suggest revisions. If requested, I will also check typesetting layout specifications.

In-depth editing covers everything as outlined above, in addition to resolving discrepancies and inconsistencies, plus actual rewriting where necessary, in order to improve content, meaning, structure and clarity. This may also be used to improve flow, and to enhance or clarify awkward sentences. With this editing service, I will  also query any seeming conflicting statements, reduce your word count if desired, and flag up any areas which may need further development or clarification.

Please note that for dissertations, thesis and technical documents, I can only offer light editing or my basic proofreading services. It is beyond my remit to edit in-depth, material which is radically outside my sphere of expertise or understanding. Whilst I will flag unclear or ambiguous terms, I will not edit them.
